Our History
During the first quarter of 2004, a group of working dog enthusiasts from Manila, Bulacan, and General Santos had a series of discussions on the present condition of protection dog sports in the country. In those discussions, they were convinced that the Philippines was in need of a practical, comprehensive, and reality-based system of testing and certifying the local stock of protective-heritage working canines.
Realizing that the Philippines had a long way to go in gaining recognition as a nation that prided itself in utilizing dogs as a working resource, the vision was then conceived of setting up a dynamic and credible organization. This group will be dedicated to the highest standards of protection dog training and testing, with challenging but realistic and achievable methods leading to their certification. A vital aspect of this vision would be to oversee the competitive welfare of the handler and dog tandem. and the canine clubs they represent, thus perpetuating a culture of training working dog breeds in the country. It then became the mission of these men to consider employing a non-breed exclusive and internationally recognized system as a dependable tool in developing the working traits of canines. After much deliberation, it was agreed upon that the MONDIO RING system be that tool. This was the birth of the PHILIPPINE MONDIO RING ASSOCIATION!
The founding officers and directors that made it happen were:
PRESIDENT : Mr. Vigilart “Archie” David
VICE PRESIDENT : Mr. Alex Caoile
SECRETARY : Dr. Norman Manlapaz
TREASURER : Mr. Joseph Brian “JB” Tan
TECHNICAL CONSULTANT: Mr. Eugene Reyes
Board of Directors:

The PHILIPPINE MONDIO RING ASSOCIATION (PMRA) is the local representative of the FCI Utility Commission Section Mondio Ring (FCI/SMCU), which is the FCI-recognized governing body of the Mondio Ring system based in France. The PMRA is committed to the propagation of the sport of Mondio Ring in the Philippines. Mondio Ring literally translated means “world ring”. Since its inception in the mid 1980’s, the goal of its founders was, and continues to be, the training, testing and certifification of dogs through a workable system that combines the merits of the world’s major dogsports – the much daunted Belgian and French ringsports, the Royal Dutch Police Dogs’ exercises and a few of the German Schutzhund exercises.
The PMRA will be holding several Mondio Ring trials each year. During the major trials, internationally certified trial judges and decoys will be conducting the proceedings. Any PCCI or FCI recognized dog that passes a Mondio Ring trial conducted by the PMRA and receives local certification is outrightly recognized as an internationally titled Mondio Ring (MR) dog. Any certified MR dog meeting the PMRA international selection criteria becomes eligible to compete in the World Championsips, held in a different host country each year. A source of national pride!
